If a motion is in the status "submitted" or "permitted" you have the possibility to add a "new vote" via the [+ New Vote] button:
1) Voting type:
a) nominal (names are tracked, can be logged as a PDF, or can be anonymised afterwards, e.g., for voting records that are not logged).
b) non-nominal (the names are not documented or kept track of at any point. The database is only used to check whether a vote has already been received from an account).
c) analog voting is intended for face-to-face meetings where voting is done by hand or by paper ballot. This option is virtually obsolete for pure virtual meetings.
2) Entitled to vote: Here you have to specify the groups that are allowed to vote, mostly the delegates, sometimes groups like "guests" can be excluded from a vote. Groups are defined via Menu > Participants > 3-point menu top right > Groups.
3) 100% base: Select which 100% base should be used to calculate ratios of the results. Currently it is not possible to cast invalid or blank ballots. We recommend offering the "abstain" option if possible.
Please note: Not all options of the statutes can be mapped in the system. The final interpretation of the data is the responsibility of the meeting chair/election chair in the end.
As soon as you click "Start voting", all eligible voters will receive a status bar at the top of OpenSlides across the entire width of the window prompting them to vote.
The current vote is also automatically displayed in Autopilot.
In case of a vote transfer the participant will see a voting field for the transfered vote in addition to their own.
Hints and tips
- You can change the state of a motion simply by clicking on the colored button and selecting the next state.
- You can perform as many votings as you want within a motion. The "New vote" button is always at the end of the list.
- Basic pre-settings can be made via the menu > Settings > Motions: e.g. voting type, eligible voters, 100% base.
- Polls are always assigned to a motion. This means that for all votings that are carried out, for example, for the constitution of the assembly or for votes on a point of order, there must be a suitable motion in which these polls can be created.
